Update on Life

Haven't blogged in 2 months...wow.  Sorry bout that, my bad!  I am gonna keep this post short too since it is finals week and I am drowning in stuff I need to study.  Three finals and 2 summer class online orientations left.  I will be done late Thursday night!

Last update on school I gave you said I was taking another semester to finish up unexpected GE requirements before transferring to SDSU.  That has changed to cramming all three GE classes into the already full schedule I have.  I am taking 3 classes this summer, 5 classes next fall, and 3 classes next spring.  Then, I am tranferring to SDSU next fall. :o)  Busy busy but 1/2 a year less of school! Woot!

The other thing going on is that I am getting more and more disgusted with my body.  I am sooo overweight and unhealthy that I am down whenever I look in the mirror.  I suck at going to the gym because I hate people looking at me there and it's hard to get a time when Nick and I can go together (I don't want to go alone).  I want to lose 100 pounds... and that is realistic because I was that weight in high school and looked good.  So, I am going to try something to try and kickstart my activity and weight loss.  How am I going to do this you may ask?  I am going to get the Wii Fit and the EA Sports Active Personal trainer!

Nicholas, if you are reading this those are the 2 things I want for my birthday!!!!

The Wii fit takes your wii character and makes it match your weight/bmi.  Then you do all these activities and balancing things to get in shape.  I will be more motivated by this because it is an interactive program and I can physically see results.

The EA Sports Active is more like you are in a gym and they have a trainer give you a workout on a circut...all from your living room.

I have attached the links for both (hint hint!) and expect to get these for my birthday.  Don't worry sweetie, I won't be offended that you are telling me to work out!! hehe

That's all for now!

My professional review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Nick and I just watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.  It was my first time watching the movie and I have to say it was pretty interesting.

I call Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, "I can fly when it is convienent for me, but not when it really matters...and I am a hormonal teenager."  Really tho, crouching tiger is the legendary warrior guy who is laying low from fighting a while and hidden dragon is the emperor's daughter who is hiding her identity (she calls herself desert dragon in the movie).

This is the jist of what happens in the movie.  There is a guy who is a legendary warrior and he wants to give his sword to a master because it is causing him trouble and he wants to "settle down" with his girl that he has never touched or proclaimed his love for.  He gives her the sword to deliver (she has a delivery service) and she ends up spending some time at the master's house where she has a friend.  The emperor's daughter is also there.

Turns out the emperor's daughter is a secret ninja fighter who is supposed to be married to some guy her parents chose (named Gou) and she is learning all her awesome skills from Jade Fox, who is like her nanny lady.  She has a secret boyfriend who she met in the desert when he tried to attack and kill her dad.  He stole her comb and they fight for like 30 minutes in the desert wrestling.  She ends up waking up in his man cave and taking a bath and making love to him several times.  When she goes back to the emperor's lifestyle she has the "meh I am a defiant teenager who can do watever I want" attitude.

The girl who delivered the store is also an amazing ninja lady who went to the Wuden mountain school and the emperor's daughter only read the book but hasn't really been trained.  They fight to try and the girl who delivered the sword tries to get it back from the emperor's daughter (oh by the way the sword is a magical, indestructible 400 year old sword).

Lots of fighting happens...some with Jade Fox and some with emperor's daughter until the emperor's daughter runs away during her wedding because her desert boyfriend comes back.  She floats away and flies over to another town to flaunt her skills.   Her secret boyfriend goes to Wuden mountain because secret lovers tell him to.  She beats up a whole restaurant worth of people and the two lovers who aren't really lovers come to try and find her.

Oh and the emperor's daughter wants to be sisters with the ninja lady who delivered the sword.  That lady finds her because emperor's daughter goes to her house for clothes and they get into a huge duel.  The indestructible sword beats every single weapon in the courtyard and legendary warrior guy steps in and says that he needs to fight her.  They fly in the air, skip over lakes, walk on trees.  All the while fighting with swords.  This is where it really shows that emperor's daughter doesn't have the training cause she is shaking and keeps falling off trees.

Finally, legendary hero warrior beats her and she agrees to be trained if he can get the sword in 3 moves... he does in 1.  She flys off a mountain and retrieves the sword from a lake he throws it into and Jade Fox whisks her away.  Jade fox drugs her with a teapot and emperor's daughter tries to make out with legendary warrior.  He wakes her up from being drugged and then Jade fox attacks them with poison darts.

Jade fox gets owned by legendary warrior dude and dies, but not before legendary warrior gets hit in the neck with a death poison dart (same kind that killed his master).  Emperor's daughter FINALLY gets over herself and goes to make a secret antidote but takes too long because she goes and has tea and takes a shower before coming back.  Legendary warrior dude dies, telling delivery chick in his last breath that he has always loved her (only it's in like 20 breaths).  Delivery lady cries and tells the emperor's daughter to go to Wuden mountain to get training and to always be true to herself.  Delivery lady wants to kill her with the super sword but doesn't.

Emperor's daughter goes to the mountain, finds boyfriend.  She makes love to him again and then gives him her comb.  She jumps off a mountain and supposedly kills herself.. even though the rest of the freaking movie they can fly and jump off of whatever they want.... doing ninja moves and such...

I guess when it really comes down to it ninja powers fail at obvious times.

Oh, and that is how the movie ends...with the emperor's daughter killing herself because she needs to to rectify all the problems that she caused with the sword, Jade fox, and her attitude.

Lastly, the whole movie is in Chinese....which makes sense since it takes place in CHINA. :) Made it authentic.

Overall I liked the movie quite a bit....but was not a HUGE fan of when the ninja people flew over LARGE areas of land, in the trees, or skipped on top of lakes.  I am all for overembellishments in fighting scenes.... but let's keep it at that :P

Did I cover the movie well enough?  Give me your opinions on my review, and also your opinion of the movie.

That's all for now :)

Remembering the good old days...my favorite disney movies!

An interesting topic came up today on the radio.

I was listening to The Mikey Show on Rock 105.3fm this morning and an interesting debate came up.  Each person on the show was trying to convince the others of their top 5 Disney Movies.  Of course, no one agreed on the same 5 and much arguing ensued.  After I heard theirs that inspired me to create my own "top 5" lists.  I was overwhelmed by the amount of movies so I decided to make my top 5 digitally animated list and my top 5 classically animated list. :) I found a complete listing of Disney movies by year here.  Here are my lists:

TOP 5 DIGITALLY ANIMATED:

1.  Wall-E
2.  Finding Nemo
3.  The Incredibles
4.  Meet the Robinsons
5.  Ratatouille

TOP 5 CLASSICALLY ANIMATED:

1.  The Lion King
2.  Beauty and the Beast
3.  The Jungle Book
4.  Basil-The Great Mouse Detective
5.  Peter Pan
***The Aristocats, Tarzan, The Rescuers Down Under, Pinocchio, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin were on my list but I couldn't fit them in my top 5 :o( ***

Oh yeah, and I have to include Fantasia on this post even though it doesn't fall into either category (It is part live acting, part animation, part concert!)  That movie mesmerized me so many times with the colorful scenes and amazing music.  We watched that movie so many times that we broke the VHS tape from wear and tear! :o)

What are your favorite Disney movies of all time?  I decided that I wanted to do 2 lists, but are you able to get down to top 5 of all time???

PLEASE POST YOUR FAVORITES IN A COMMENT!!!!

~Heather

PS- I am going to convince my husband shortly that we need to start slowly buying all of my favorite Disney movies :o)  I want my kids to watch them :o)  Oh, and I will totally watch them too!

Praying for God to give me patience, and what I am getting

People always say not to pray for patience because God will do drastic things in order to make you patient.  I always hated that people would specifically tell me not to pray for something.  So, I prayed for patience about a month ago....  I told my husband and bible study that I wasn't afraid of what God had in store for me.

Today I am getting the first clearly defined "test" from God to go through and learn patience.  I discovered today that after 2 years of doing a TON of GE to get certified in it for the CSU system through palomar and to have for my AA's that I wasn't doing the right stuff.  All 5 or 6 counselling appointments that I have had with 3-4 different counsellors failed to tell me that Palomar has their own sheet of GE that you must complete in order to obtain an AA degree through the school.  Well, I thought I just needed the CSU GE sheet completed (which is way more involved and a lot more units).  Nope.  Come to find out I am missing AT LEAST 2 classes for the Palomar sheet, possibly 3 if they don't allow crossover units from one side of the sheet to the other.

I was devastated when I first found out.  This is going to make my college career another semester long....  Another 6 months of school before I can say that I have my AA's.  I almost lost in in class bawling.  I cried in the car on the way home.  I was mad...threw the college catalog at the wall a few times even.

At dinner tonight my husband said something though, and it helped me.  He kept saying to be patient and that I should just take the things as they come.  Right then I realized that this was a test for me to be patient and to learn to be more positive.  I immediately changed my reactions and am trying to stay happy about the whole thing.  I am going to take 3 classes in an extra semester to complete my last two GE courses, as well as the final undergrad course necessary to transfer to SDSU's Child Development major someday.  I am going to learn more things I never would have otherwise.  I am going to get to have a non-full semester with classes that are easier and more for leisure (they are NOT hard classes).  I am going to be more patient and have to wait longer to start a family.  All these things are good, but coming about in a previously negative situation.

I am continuing to pray for patience, and thanking God for blessing me with this test.

I am now Wisdomteethless

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday at around 4pm.  I didn't go under like most people because I was able to get them pulled in the regular dentist office with just numbing shots (although I did have 6 shots!).  They let me get numb, yanked them out, and then had me bite down on gauze.  Simple as that!  I had some swelling last night (haven't looked in the mirror to see if it is still there this morning) and a really bad headache. Luckily, I had some 800mg Ibuprofin to take care of that.

This morning I feel pretty good.  The pill from last night is wearing off and the headache/aching is coming back.  But, overall I feel pretty good for getting them out.

The most annoying thing is trying to eat.  Last night I got down the broth of top ramen and about 3 noodles.  Then, my amazing husband went to the store to get me some soft foods.  He picked up a small chocolate frosty from Wendys and I was able to eat the whole thing because it melted. :o)

This morning I am working on a breakfast shake that my husband made me out of blueberry yogurt, a banana, and some milk.  I'm doing pretty good, other than the fact I have been trying to drink it for 45 minutes and still have a quarter left :-P

I hope I can eat real food soon!  I miss meat!

Shrimp BABIES!!!!

Hey Everyone!

As I stated before, we have a cute little red ghost shrimp in our fish tank to help keep it clean. When we got her, she had a full belly of what we assumed was leftover fish food and that she was doing her job great!  Well, for a while after I cleaned the tank she disappeared and I thought that the fish had eaten her or something.  I was wrong.  Right before I left for my trip to Kentucky (another post that needs to be written) I spotted her behind the tank just chillin!  Yay!!!  I was stoked about that and left happily.
About 4 days into my trip, I got a call from Nick at 11pm.  He asked me how many shrimp I had bought when I got fish.  I told him just one little ghost shrimp, since that is what the person at the pet store said was necessary for my 3 gallon tank.  In response to my answer Nicholas replied with, "Well, the shrimp must have had babies because there are between 5-6 sitting in our tank right now!"

OH.MY.GOSH.  That little shrimp I had purchased didn't have a full belly of food!  What I had seen was little shrimp eggs that were incubating!  I didn't get a good look at all the babies until today, when I went to check the water level in the tank.  All of them were swimming around in the water, just eating and having a good time.  They still are!

I grabbed the camera and tried to take some pictures.  I got one which shows 3 or 4 of them, and a video of them swimming around (they are the little see thru things).  Aren't they cute!
video
Enjoy!

I've been tagged my Harr! :o)

I have been tagged by Heather over at "The Heaven I'm Headed To" with this fun blog!

Here are the rules:

1) Choose the 4th folder where you store your pictures on your computer
2) Select the 4th picture in the folder
3) Explain the picture
4) Tag 4 people to do the same

This is one of 500 engagement photos taken by the very talented Taylor Abeel :o) (who was also our wedding photographer).  We went down to La Jolla to these gorgeous spots and just had fun with the scenery and playing with poses in front of the camera.  This was the first time I had ever had that many photos taken of me at once, and it was very awkward at first.  We didn't choose this particular picture, but there were sooooooo many good ones!

Now to tag 4 people:
1.Nicholas here
2.Heidi here
3.Jillian here
4.Amanda here

Thanks Harr!

Flying is... for lack of a better term.... confusing!

Hello again guys!  Sorry I have not written in a while!  Been sorta busy around here.

I am taking a vacation shortly to my grandparents in Kentucky.  I haven't flown since I was a senior in high school and being the hard studious person that I am (hehe...) I decided to check out the offical airline and TSA rules for flying.

The first thing that I noticed is that I now have to pay to check in luggage.  Are you joking me!?  15 bucks each way to put my suitcase on the plane (and if I had another one it would be another 25 bucks each way).  Just imagine if you had a big family going somewhere... 15 bucks a pop each way, plus more if someone has more than the one 50 pound alloted bag!  I am praying my bag doesn't turn out to weigh that much.

Next, I decided to check out the available food on the plane, since my flight leaves rather early and I have quite a long flight which will span over 2 meal times.  My airline has really confusing rules about who gets what, when.  See evidence below(courtesy www.continental.com):

Standard Mealtimes

Breakfast / Snack: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Lunch / Snack: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Dinner / Snack: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Flight Duration
Economy Class
Less than 1 hour
beverage
1 to 1 ½ hours
beverage, peanuts or pretzels on flights after 10:00 a.m.
Over 1 ½ to 2 hours

beverage, peanuts or pretzels on flights after 10:00 a.m.
2 to 3 ½ hours

breakfast – beverage, snack

lunch/dinner – beverage, snack (meal for flights over three hours)

Over 3 ½ hours

breakfast – beverage, snack

lunch/dinner – meal

Note: Snacks will be offered on flights departing after 7:00 p.m.

According to this chart, and based on my flight times/lengths, I will be getting a beverage/snack for breakfast (over a 5 hour flight) and beverage/peanuts/pretzels (for a 10 min shy of 2 hr flight).  So, for flying all day I am gonna live on snacks and beverages lol.  I have a short amount of time in a layover, and hopefully can get food there.  As for the return flights, I will get a beverage/snack for my 2.5 hour flight and possibly a meal (tho it isn't in the meal time and I don't know if there is an exeption if your flight is over 3 hours) but more likely just another snack.  I rocked at scheduling my flights lol.

Thirdly, I looked up the TSA rules for what you can carry on now-a-days.  The list is very extensive and can be found here.  What I find funny is that disposable razors, scissors with less than a 4 inch pointed tip, eyelash repair kits (including screwdrivers), cigar cutters, and umbrellas are allowed in your carry on bags. Compare this to some prohibited items such as any beverages, baby teethers with gel, gel candles, gel shoe inserts, jello, pudding, yogurt, or any liquid/gel that is over 3oz and not in a clear bag.  Does this seem a little odd to you????  It does for me.  I am debating whether it is ok to bring my glass nail file.  It says nail files are ok but I assume it is talking about the cardboard/sandpaper ones so idk.  I will probably just stick it in my check in bag to be safe.

Wowzers...I had no idea that traveling by plane would be so stressful or confusing!  I have never flown by myself and am hoping I do everything right, including transferring planes at my layover.  Tell me what you think of these rules?  Fair?  Unfair?  For the safety of the passengers?  Too strict for everyday travelers?  Any funny experiences at the airport you would like to share?  Let me know!

Christmas and New Years

Christmas and New Years was pretty laid back in the Head household.  For Christmas we woke up at 6:40am (unintentionally) and opened our presents to each other.  :o)  I got the whole scrapbooking kit to make my wedding scrapbook.  It is a really nice book (simple slip in for pics/writing) and comes with special papers and stuff to make it pretty.  Don't I sound like a professional scrapbooker?  Nick got a gaming headset/microphone, a gift card for amazon, a barbeque temperature fork, and a new cable for his car so he can play his music in the car.  Yeah... we spoiled each other.  After we opened our gifts, we went to my parents house to hang out and exchanged gifts.  That was fun, and we watched Nacho Libre while we waited to go to my grandma's.  At grandmas we exchanged gifts with extended family and then came back home and played wii with sisters and cousins.  We ended the day with a dinner and hang out time with my family.  It was fun, and though it sounds busy, relaxing.

On New Year's Eve Nick and I took my sisters to the Wild Animal Park.  I have to say that is was one of the most relaxing times ever there.  We made our way throughout the whole park except condor ridge and took LOTS of funny pictures. :o)

That evening, we went to dinner with the Spiekers and the Abeels at Casa de Pico and went to the Spiekers house to play Settlers of Catan.  It is a geeky game that is supposedly like Risk (I have never played) and took over 2 hours. :P  The family lit off a ton of fireworks at the new year countdown.  Soon afterward we left and went home and crashed.  It was pretty laid back. :)

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Kitty Cat Fashion

My sister's sent me this picture of my kitty cat (who still lives at my parents because Nick is allergic) on my phone on Saturday.  They found a santa outfit in the Christmas boxes while decorating and decided it would be fun to dress up Molly (the kitty) like Santa Claus.  Please know that Molly didn't mind at all-she is a weird cat who fetches like a dog, drinks out of the bathtub, and acts like a human.  When she got the shirt on she just laid down and relaxed in her warm, comfy outfit.  Looks pretty funny to me!

Nick's cake baking attempt :P

A little over a week ago my sisters came over for dinner/hang out time.  After dinner, we decided to play a card game and Nick was craving sweets.  So, he went and got out a cake mix (Angel food) and some frosting (Confetti) and decided to bake a cake.  I gave him the advice to use 2 cake pans, since we didn't have the suggested bunt cake pan that the box called for.  He poured the mixture into both of the cake pans and stuck them in the oven.

When he went to check on the cake with the oven light about 15 minutes later, we all saw that the cakes were about to overflow all over the oven because they had expanded so much!  Nick used his quick thinking skills to put a cookie sheet under the pans in case any unwanted spills occured (which never happened).  The box said to cook the cake until there were deep, dry cracks in the top of it.  Well, the time came and went and the cracks had not appeared.  We kept checking it every couple of minutes for about 10 minutes past suggested cake time, when I finally told him to pull the pans out because I didn't want it to be dry.

The box said to immediately remove the cakes from the pans, so logically we tried to do that.  Unfortunately, the cakes were horribly stuck to the sides and we basically massacred them trying to remove them from the hot pans.  I think we should have greased the pans, even though the recipe specifically said not to.   Then, nick took the frosting and used a SPOON to frost the cake.  He put like half a can of frosting on (DEFINITELY OVER FROSTED! :P)  and served it to us as the whole cake on one plate for us to share.

You know how cake is supposed to be soft and airy?  Yeah... when we went to take a bite it was spongy and rubbery.  I don't know what exactly went wrong or if the box was bad or something but it was really funny trying to eat it and taking pictures with it. :P  Here is a picture of my wonderful, non cake making husband frosting the "cake"

:)

Christmas Trees

I grew up with the tradition that every year we get a new, real Christmas tree. It was tradition to cut it down with the family and decorate it together. Now, after getting married to Nick, things have changed. He grew up with a fake tree, mostly because of his horrible allergies. We tried a real one last year (Ya know, went and cut down one that we picked out) and I saw just how bad his allergies were. Not to mention the fact that it cost us like 30 bucks for the most little, lopsided tree EVER. Check my blog posts from last December to see it. So, this year I finally surrendered and said we could get a fake tree, if I knew it would look good. On Black Friday we went to Home depot because I saw several sales on them, and lo and behold what did I find? A 7.5 foot pre-lit fake tree for 49.99! We put it up and I have to say it is beautiful. All other comprable ones (that in my opinion didn't look as good) were 350-400 dollars so I am stoked we got it for so cheap! Here is a picture of the tree with just the lights on, with Nick standing next to it for comparison (He is 6 foot 2 or 3 inches). And 2 after pictures, decorated and pretty. :o)

School and feelings

I am going to be really really happy when this semester is done. It has been an awesome semester, full of learning new things, but really busy. I have never taken all child development classes before; every other semester it has been GE and one CHDV class. I have really enjoyed my teachers this semester and the different styles of teaching. But, by the end of every semester I am drained. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. Today I have reached that point. After printing out 80 pages of typed homework this weekend, I don't know how much more I can take. I have 4 tests, a huge advocacy project, an observation journal, and a notebook project left. To be honest, I feel like I am over the hump of a ton of work...but looking at this I get overwhelmed again. :o(

I hate feeling overwhelmed. I hate feeling hopeless. I hate feeling out of control. I hope that these feelings go away soon, as they have been back for about a week and a half. I need to control myself, and keep calm. I need to lean on my support to get through this, and above all rely on God. I thought that I was over this- over the weirdness- over the ridiculous feelings and thoughts. Guess not.

Sorry, this was a rant. Feel free to ignore.

To Write Love on Her Arm Day

If you guys didn't know, today (November 13th) is To Write Love on Her Arm Day (TWLOHA). TWLOHA is an organization that provides hope and information to those struggling with suicide, self harm, depression, and hopelessness. On this day, you are supposed to write "LOVE" on your arm and if people ask why you have it there, you can talk to them about the subject. As a Christian, I would also use this as an opportunity to share Christ with strangers.

I wrote "LOVE" on my left arm today (as shown to the right), and though I didn't go anywhere or get asked I am reminded that I am loved every time i see it. :o)

Depression, Self-Harm, and Suicide are all topics considered taboo in today's culture, but they affect so many people in the United States and around the world. As someone who has had personal experience with struggling with these issues I really appreciate that an organization exists to try and make this subject less taboo. If you ever suspect that anyone you know is dealing with these problems, please reach out and show love. You may save their life and make more of an impact then you will ever know.

I am glad I am loved, and want to give anyone who wants a hug a hug :o)

Please support TWLOHA day in the future, and remember to keep your heart open to being someone's support.

Election Thoughts

It is now five days post election and I have been thinking about the outcome and what it means for our country.

Barack Obama is the 44th president of the United States of America. I did not vote for him and I personally think that him getting elected in may have been the biggest mistake in the history of our country's existence. But, regardless of that, he did win because the voters chose him. I know that God has the ultimate plan for our me, my country, and the world. I pray that he keeps us safe and that people began to trust in him more. Until Obama does something that is in conflict with God's holy word, I need to respect him as authority. As soon as he starts contradicting God's word/starts doing things that go against what I believe in and what God has allowed I will not honor his authority or respect him. I just gotta keep on prayin. :)

The propositions had a different turnout than I expected, for good and bad. Propositions 1-6 had the opposite outcome than I wanted, and Propositions 7-12 had the outcome that I voted for. The most important proposition was definately Prop 8, which passed!!!! I wrote a blog about it about a week ago and had several people telling me off for my opinion.... To those people, I am happy I voted YES and am ESTATIC that Prop 8 passed like I prayed it would. :) Our state has now voted yes on banning gay marriage 2 times. I think that is a pretty strong indication of what the public wants. Can we lay it to rest now???? PLEASE????

I am proud of myself for voting. This is the first presidential election that I was eligable to vote for, and I definately extended my right to vote :o)

Hope everyone has a good rest of the night (as it is 4:35am here right now) and just ask that we all pray for our country continually that we may be able to see what God wants us to do and follow him!

Til next time
~Heather

God is AMAZING!!!

Wow... God shows me things every day!

Just take birth for example. Even when babies come out very premature, like my nephew, God takes care of them and they bounce back to be perfectly healthy children. The intricacies of the human body astound me... God sure knows what he is doing.

Here is Josh at birth:

And as of last week (2 years 3 months):

Halloween 2008 :-)

This Halloween was very laid back and simple. I didn't really dress up, but rather wore a little Japanese like cartoon kitty cat hat to our church harvest festival. Before we left for that, my nephew and sister/mother in law came over for pictures. He was a little doggy and suuuuuuper cute!

At the Halloween festival we just walked around, said hi to our nieces, and saw some friends. Man, aren't me and my friends made for each other?

After the harvest festival, our friends Michael and Natalie invited us to go to dinner with them (at like 9pm) and we happily agreed. We went to Nuevo Grill and ate while discussing politicals and our lives for about an hour and a half. We finally left when we looked up and were the last people in the entire restaurant. :) Nick and I came home and I passed out from tiredness. I was so tired that when Nick decided to go to bed and tried to wake me up I didn't budge. I woke up at 4:30am and finally went to bed in bed. :P

How was all of your guys halloween?
